St. Adalbert's is served by the Congregation of Holy Cross, founded by Basil Anthony Moreau. We are a community of pontifical right: men living and working under the approbation and authority of the successor of Peter. We are a religious Congregation composed of two distinct societies of religious, one of religious priests and one of religious brothers, bound together in one indivisible brotherhood.
Holy Cross Priests, founded as Auxiliary Priests and under the patronage of the Sacred Heart of Jesus were originally formed by Fr. Moreau after the French Revolution to preach missions and serve in rural parishes. Today Holy Cross priests serve in a wide variety of ministries, from University Presidents to Parish Pastors, from law clerks to middle school teachers, from chaplains in the military to direct service to the poor. Holy Cross priests serve the many diverse needs of the Church in community sharing their gifts and dispensing the sacraments and above all preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Holy Cross Brothers, founded as the Brothers of St. Joseph and under his special patronage were originally formed by Fr. Jacque Dujarie to teach in schools after the devastation of the French Revolution. United to stand as a distinct society alongside the Auxiliary Priests and under the direction of Fr. Moreau, Holy Cross brothers today serve the needs of the Church throughout the world, sharing their talents in community and at the service of the Body of Christ. They take the same vows as priests living out their vocation in community and ministering with them side by side.
