Anointing of the sick

Anointing of the Sick

"Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over him and anoint [him] with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed any sins, he will be forgiven." -James 5:14-15

The Sacrament of Anointing is for the healing and strengthening of one who is sick or advanced in age. Bishops and priests place their hands on the sick, invoking the power of the Holy Spirit over the one suffering and anoint them with holy oil speaking the words "Through this holy anointing, may the Lord in His love and mercy help you with the grace of the Holy Spirit. May the Lord who frees you from sin save you and raise you up." They pray, together with their friends and families, for the one being anointed.

If you or someone you know is in need of an Anointing, please call the parish office. One does not need to wait until someone is on their deathbed. If one is seriously sick or about to undergo a surgery they are encouraged to call the parish office to request a priest, even after hours.
